40多年前,在日本東京都裡有一間古樸的小店,店裡面只有一個皮革製作老師傅。老師傅只接受客人的訂單,由客人親口告訴他想要的東西,他再一針一線慢慢縫製如此極具個人風格的皮件。慢慢老師傅的精緻手工出了名,越來越多人想要點特別的東西。但是想要有老師傅親手做的皮件可不是件簡單的事,並不是因為價格高昂,而是因為那漫長的等候…
老師傅總是在皮件的某個不顯眼的角落,雕上一個小小的cowa。有一天,一個老顧客問了,究竟cowa是商標嗎?有什麼特別的涵義嗎?
老師傅沉默的好一會,週遭的空氣彷彿凝結靜止,他緩緩說到:『其實我壓根沒想過要在自己作品上簽名或製作什麼商標的…刻上個小小的cowa,不過是讓我知道哪些皮件是我的孩子罷了!當五年、十年過後、甚至二十年過後,我的孩子再度回到我手上,需要我維修它、照顧它的時候,我會很開心的迎接它回家。對這些皮件來說、對這些顧客來說,我希望我這間小店,是一個可以永恆不變等待他們回家的場所。就這樣罷了…』
About 40 years ago, a modest yet stylish boutique was established in an alley of the bustling Tokyo city in Japan by an old craftsman. He worked in leather manufacturing all his life, doing customized order and made only exquisite and personalized products. Over times, his delicate artistry and superior service has made him become quite popular.
In order to memorized all items he has made, old craftsman started to stamp “COWA” in the corner of the products.
One day, a young customer asked, “What does COWA mean anyway? “ Followed by a long silence, the old craftsmen said, “These works are like my children, I have never thought about creating a signature or a logo, I put stamp on the products simply because I can recognize them after years. And when they come back for maintenance, I’ll be able to recognize them instantly.
For these unique leather works and all my customers, I hope this small leather boutique can be an everlasting place like their home, where they are always welcome to return or visit.
